Total War: ROME II - Beasts of War Unit Pack

Beasts of War was developed by The Creative Assembly, published by SEGA and released on 17 February 2014.

About the Game

Beasts of War added 7 new animal themed battlefield units to Total War: ROME II's diverse unit roster. Terrorise your enemies and slow their progress with beehive, scorpion and snake-pot ballistas, or crush them under the weight of heavily-armoured Cataphract Camels and Mercenary Syrian Armoured Elephants, and when their will is broken and they flee the field, run them down with two new breeds of ferocious war-dogs. Beasts of War brings introduces the following recruitable units to ROME II:

  • Molossian Dogs
  • Beehive Onager
  • Scorpion Pot Ballista
  • Snake Pot Ballista
  • Camel Cataphracts
  • Celtic Warhounds
  • Mercenary Syrian Armoured Elephants
  • Wolf Warriors
  • Sobek Cultists
  • Mercenary Leopard Warriors
  • Skills and Experiences

Beasts of War went through a few design iterations, before it went into production. We gave a bit of the "Historical Accuracy" side of Total War: ROME II slightly more leeway on this project. For example the Beehive Onager, a catapult which threw pots of bees.

Beasts of War was a small project, and some of the art was outsourced to external contractors. At this point, we had split off a team to focus primarily on DLC and patching Total War: ROME II. Patch 10 released alongside Beasts of War.
